Analysis of Natural Disasters in Petrópolis in 2011 and 2022

This work explores the area of humanitarian logistics, with a special focus on case studies related to the Petrópolis disasters in the years 2011 and 2022. Both are notable examples of large-scale catastrophes, both of natural origin, caused by intense rains that caused floods and landslides. Therefore, this article presents a conceptual review of humanitarian logistics and its application in two catastrophic contexts in Brazil: the climate tragedy that occurred in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, in the municipality of Petrópolis, in 2011, and the new disaster that occurred in the same city in 2022. The purpose of this approach is to highlight the importance of humanitarian logistics procedures in minimizing the impact of disasters, through the main management stages: preparation, response and recovery.
