Abstract

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a thermoplastic polymer that requires additives to improve its properties for various applications. In order to ensure flexibility, plasticizers make the intermolecular forces weak, increasing the free volume. The phthalates like DINP, DIDP, and DEHP are often used; however, they pose risks to human health, especially due to the migration of substances from flexible PVC sheets in contact with food. The RDC nº 51 defines the tests for determining total migration into food equipment. The ABNT NBR 16040 presents the methods for gas chromatography for the determination maximum phthalate content in polymers. This paper evalueted studies in nacional samples. since the literature is focused on foreign samples, and research about the accordance of commercial samples with quantity limits for phthalates and total migration.
