The increasing complexity of software systems poses significant challenges to the quality and productivity of development, especially in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Thus, this work aims to analyze the impact of test automation and modular design as a strategy to improve the quality and productivity of the software development process in SMEs. The research methodology adopted for this work is Action Research. The results indicate that the adoption of automated unit, integration, and functional tests favors the early detection of faults, reduces rework, and strengthens code modularization, contributing to a more robust and maintainable architecture. It was concluded that the combination of test automation and modular design represents an essential strategy for SMEs seeking market competitiveness, offering benefits that go beyond simply reducing defects, by fostering good engineering practices and promoting project scalability.
