The fourth industrial revolution, Industry 4.0, have technological innovations to streamline or automate processes and resources. Based on cyber physical systems, where all elements and people are, directly or indirectly, connected, technologies such as the internet of things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, additive manufacturing, among others, bring greater integration of information providing new possibilities for developments. One of the areas that can benefit from this new context is agricultural production, especially food, which became known as Agriculture 4.0. This paper presents a systematic review on agriculture 4.0 and its technological applications, objectifying to investigate the applicability of the technology called internet of things. Authors present the possibility of cost reduction, process optimization, increased production and waste reduction. We can verify from the research exposed in this paper that the use of the internet of things becomes essential in agriculture 4.0.
