Abstract

This article analyzes the integration between sustainability and production automation in two automotive organizations located in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, Brazil. The research, applied in nature and utilizing a mixed-method approach, aims to understand how operational efficiency, combined with environmental management, generates competitive advantage and supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). A multiple case study was conducted, involving direct data collection and the application of strategic management tools, including SWOT analysis, the Balanced Scorecard (BSC), and the Triple Layered Business Model Canvas (TLBMC). Results demonstrate that adopting sustainable practices and automation technologies contributes to waste reduction, improved production efficiency, and the consolidation of a sustainability-oriented organizational culture. It is concluded that the integration between technological innovation and socio-environmental responsibility is a determining factor for competitiveness and the automotive sector's transition toward cleaner, circular, and more resilient production models.
