Environmental impacts in the passenger road transport system in Rio de Janeiro city

This article presents an analysis of the environmental impacts in the urban road passenger transport sector in the city of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the measures adopted by the sector to mitigate these effects. Initially, an overview of the sector was provided, followed by an analysis of the Brazilian legislation applicable to it and a presentation of the main environmental impacts caused by the sector in the urban environment in which it operates. The study is justified by the need to deepen the understanding of environmental impacts in transportation and to offer substantive contributions toward finding solutions that reconcile urban development with environmental preservation and the promotion of societal well-being.
